UoM MEMBERS AT PROGRESS MEETING AND WORKSHOP OF EUSL ENERGY PROJECT

The M30 meeting, a joint progress meeting and workshop discussing the Erasmus+ cofounded project aimed at capacity building in the field of Higher Education on EUSL Energy and EU BBC Digital was held at the University of Twente (UT) in the Netherlands from 13th - 17th June 2022.

A local partnership formed by a 45 member academic group from Sri Lanka, led by the Vice-Chancellor of the Open University of Sri Lanka together with the members of the faculties of Engineering from the University of Peradeniya (UoP), University of Moratuwa (UoM) and the University of Ruhuna (UoR) developed the proposal for EUSL Energy as part of the project. Accordingly, Prof. S.H.P. Gunawardena, Prof. Mahinsasa Narayana, Dr. R.M.D.S. Gunarathne, Dr. S.A.D.T. Subasinghe and Dr. G.S.M.D.P. Sethunga of the Department of Chemical and Process Engineering, and Dr. L.N.W. Arachchige and Dr. R.M.T. Damayanthi of the Department of Electrical Engineering and Dr. H. P. Karunathilake of the  Department of the Mechanical Engineering participated in the M30 meeting and workshop to report the progress of their work related to the EUSL Energy project and to build collaborations.

With the goal of creating an excellent educational program through capacity building in the energy sector of different regions in the world, these projects aim to develop a student-centered education incorporating innovation, entrepreneurship and various “21st-century skills” as well as challenge-driven learning perspective, into various academic MSc level programs in the participating countries including MSc in Energy for Circular Economy. Both projects are expected to be driving toward modernizing education in the respective countries through digital and online learning, with the emphasis on co-creation and reuse of the learning material in different regions of the world.

The meeting comprised of discussions covering the overview of the project through developing modules, creating remote labs, and methodology to train the trainers as well as a panel discussion held between embassies, academics and resource personnel of the respective countries, scrutinizing the challenges of the implementation of the project as well as potential actions to overcome them.
