EUSL-Energy Live Webinar - 2 - Renewable Energy on Floating Structures - Professor Janaka Bandara Ekanayake

Professor Janaka Bandara Ekanayake from the University of Peradeniya. With the recent interest in decarbonizing the electrical energy sector,
renewable energy has emerged as a promising option. Early renewable
energy projects are mainly onshore. Today more offshore options are
seen, and out to them, some are developed in floating structures. The
main floating renewable energy sources are offshore wind with floating
foundations, floating PV and some marine energy options. Even though
all these options are growing, the installed capacity of the floating marine
energy is extremely small compared to the other two. It is anticipated
that more and more offshore wind and FPV plants will emerge in the
next decade. This presentation covers different aspects of offshore wind
and floating structures available for offshore wind turbines. Also, floating
PV is discussed in detail while briefly introducing some of the floating
marine energy options.
